Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness will be taking its place again this year for students in grades 3 through 8 on Math and Language Arts/Reading.  This testing will take place in March an April and be done on the chromebooks.  We encourage all students to be in attendance and give their best effort.

Kaskaskia College Jump Start Scholarships

Freshmen through Seniors with a “C” average may take a college class at Kaskaskia College with a Jump Start Scholarship.  The Jump Start Scholarship will pay ½ tuition for up to four credit hours.  The student is responsible for the other ½ of tuition, book costs, and fees.  This is for college credit only (not high school credit) and the class the student signs up for must be at a time when high school is not in session (online, after school or on weekends).  To qualify for the scholarship, the student must have a “C” average.  See Ms Meng immediately if you are interested in applying.  Please note: This is a Kaskaskia College program.  Patoka School only offers the scholarship form.  All payment and scheduling arrangements must be done by the student/parent. Patoka staff will NOT have access to student grades or classes.  Classes begin Monday, January 10 so you need to register and pay before then to be eligible.

Kaskaskia College Foundation Scholarships

Graduating seniors, the KC Foundation Scholarship has been changed this year with an easier application.  Currently, the deadline is February 1, 2022.  Go to KC’s website, complete the information portion and start completing your essay, transcript, and letters of recommendation.  Ms. Meng has emailed the seniors tips for their essay.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  If I do not know the answer to your question, Kaskaskia College has a fantastic Financial Aid office that would be more than happy to help.  (https://www.kaskaskia.edu/admissions/financial-aid/grants/foundation-scholarships/)

FAFSA

Hopefully, most of the seniors (and older siblings in college) have completed the FAFSA for financial aid in college.  If you haven’t, do so as soon as possible as the free money is running out.  Also, remember that this is a graduation requirement.
