IAR Testing

Students in Grades 3-8 and grade 11 will all be taking the IAR and ISA Test.  Please avoid making doctor, dentist, orthodontics, or other appointments during the following time frames.  It is much easier on the student if they are in attendance the days they are tested.  Testing will take place from March 23 through April 8.  An exact schedule is shown on the school’s Facebook page or by clicking here.

Freshmen and Sophomores will take the PSAT on Tuesday, April 14.  This testing will last approximately three hours.  The Juniors will take the SAT also on April 14 and will last approximately four and a half hours.  This test is a college enterance exam where the scores will be a determining factor in which college/university the students can gain admittance.  It is important that they take this test seriously so they can be admitted to their school of choice as well as be elegible for additional scholarships at the school.  Khan Academy has great practice and sample tests for the SAT.  Encourage all high school students to start to use this program.

 Kaskaskia College Registration

If you PLAN to attend Kaskaskia College this summer or in the fall, you should complete the following checklist:

_____ Apply for Admissions. This can be done at by clicking on Apply Now.  Once your application is processed, you will receive a postcard that will give you a KC ID# and an opportunity to set your own password.  WRITE DOWN YOUR KC ID# and PASSWORD.  You will need it to log in to classes, check KC email, use Campus Net, etc. They will only give this info to you.

_____ Apply for Financial Aid by filling out the FAFSA. This can be done at

_____ Submit placement scores for English and Math to KC if your program requires it.  KC will accept ACT/SAT scores or you can take their KC placement test. If your scores are not as high as you would like (18 ACT/500 SAT for English, 23 ACT/530 SAT for Math) then schedule a placement test appointment by calling the Success Center at 618/545-3060. Do this BEFORE March 24 so you can register for classes and have the best choice for classes.

_____ Register for KC classes at Patoka High School on March 24, 2020. A KC admission rep will come to our school to make this process easy for you.

_____ After registration, you will receive a schedule and a bill at some point. Do not ignore the instructions for when your bill must be paid by.

Now that you have completed the deadlines for college admittance, start working on outside scholarships.  Seniors, check your school email because I am sending as many as I can your way.  Parents, check with your place of employment or places you do business.  So many scholarships go unawarded because no one applies for them.  Be proactive and earn free money!
