Wondering What Career is Right for YOU?
Head to http://www.careercruising.com and investigate. You can take a career interest inventory that will suggest possible careers for you to consider as well as let you explore colleges and universities. This site is great! To use the program, go to the website and use the username: patokahs and the password: careers. To take an interest inventory, you will need to create your own account. It is never too early to start thinking about your future.
Senior Parents
Encourage your child to start looking for scholarships. As I receive them at school, I am emailing them to students and any interested parent. If you want to be added to the emails, please let me know. There are many free sites that they can create an account and search scholarships that are relevant for them. Some of the sites include:
www.studentscholarships.org
www.scholarships.com/
www.tuitionfundingsources.com
www.fastweb.com
FAFSA
Students who are going to college in the fall, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens November 1 for BETA testing to select students and will be open December 1 for everyone else. The FAFSA went through a MAJOR overhaul last year and will be different than any FAFSA that you have completed in the past. I am hopeful that more students qualify for the Pell and Map Grants in order to make college more affordable.
Senior Parents, the FAFSA must be completed to meet graduation requirements. Kaskaskia College will host a completion night on January 30th.
As always, please reach out to your child’s teacher, our administration, or myself with any concern you may have. Together, we can make big differences!
